perfume adventure

I am definitely not a type who enjoys wearing perfume all the time.
but when I went to a local market the other day, and had a slice of watermelon samples,
I totally fell in love with the smell of the flesh watermelon.
also as the summer is approaching,
the sent of watermelon(perhaps combined with cucumber) would be perfect, I thought.

so I went on etsy, my usual place to browse and shop, and searched.
I ordered a sampler from Etiquette.

(they came in the cute little box, too!)
although I loved all the scents in the sampler, they weren't quite the smell I am looking for.
so, my perfume adventure continues...
if anyone has a recommendation on watermelon/cucumber perfume,
let me know!
I am looking for something crisp and light, but less floral and sweet...

catch up's and sale announcement

Hello :)
sorry for slacking!
we've been really busy these days.

I have been working on a dress for my best friend.
she is going to a couple of weddings, so I got a commission from her.
I am almost done with it. just need to finish the sleeves and the hem!
I will post pictures when it's done.

since little L(my daughter) is getting more active everyday,
we started looking into baby/kids activities in the area.
in BC, there is a program called Strong Start.
free drep-in programs for preschool kids with their parents/gardians and caregivers.
usually held at elementary schools.
it provides kids a place to play and learn,
and it is an awesome way to meet other families and make friends.
luckily, we have an elementary school in walking distance where they offer this program!
Thursdays are music day, and it is also baby friendly(some activities can be still a bit hard for little L).
so we've been going there on Thursdays and singing and playing instalments, like bells and drums.
it's been really fun and great for little L
not only because she loves music, but also it's so good for her to interact with other kids and babies.

also, we've been going to a baby massage class.
our friend's mom and her co-worker are doing five Friday massage class for FREE!
today was the 3rd class, and it's been awesome.
she does pretty good laying down quietly, if you consider now she is in the phase that is all about moving around!
and everyone in the class is amazed :)
and she passes out after the class.
it is a great way to relax your baby, and an amazing way to connect/communicate with your child.

***************************************************************************************************
okay, now I have a little announcement.

I am going to have a pre-holiday sale at my Etsy shop.
it will be the week of Nov. 29th to Dec 5th.
I will make a post about it again when the day comes closer!

***************************************************************************************************

p.s. have a happy weekend♥

it's getting cold.
winter is just around the corner!
well, maybe it's here already!!

honestly, ear muffs are one of my favourite things in the winter!
when you wear your hair up, you can't wear a hat or hood.
that's exactly when they come in handy :)

I have just one like in the second pic, and we are the best buddies throughout the winter :) :) :)

p.s. have a nice weekend ;)

Etsy - jewelry updates #2

another cute bracelet for you!
I originally started making a green one as my friend's upcoming birthday gift.
then I decided to make a few more for my Etsy shop cuz it turned out so darn cute :)

I love the delicate look, but the colors add a little bit of playful fun.

I would also like to post a how-to on this bracelet.
I've taken pictures and all I have to do is write step-by-step directions.
but I'm going to wait until next week when we FINALLY get a high speed Internet at home!
yay! no more piggiebacking on the S L O W internet!!
it's been pretty frustrating trying to get online, and getting bumped off.
it's waaaaayyyyyy toooooooo sloooooooooowwwwwwww ...

so, please stay tuned!
I will also post a how-to on hoop earrings next week, as I promised!

Etsy - jewelry updates

it's been forever since the last time I had worked on my jewelry.
I was too occupied with other things - raising a child, sewing and just everyday stuff
or/and I had been too lazy and not been motivated enough to dig into my beading mess.

buuuut
the time has come!
for the past few days, I got a burst of energy and creativity for making jewelry.

so here are the bracelet and necklace I made for my Etsy shop.

I also made myself the same bracelet.
I am not really into wearing bracelet,
but this one I can just leave it on my wrist, and it doesn't bother me.

I really like how the necklace turned out too.

hmmmmmmm
another necklace to 'treat' myself?!

I love treating myself way too much, though... :P

P.S. I have been wanting to do a how-to on making a hummered hoop earrings!
maybe sometime this week or next week?!
so, please stay tuned :)

purple flower maxi

I saw this really pretty maxi dress in a local eco-clothing store.
very pretty flower printed fabric.
I really wanted it, but it was a bit more than I am generally willing to spend on a piece of clothes.

I thought the design was simple enough that I could make it!
so I went fabric hunting.

there was nothing really catching my eyes in the fabric store.
but I thought I'd give it a try with this purple flower fabric anyway...

interestingly enough, as soon as I started working on the dress,
I did not follow her how-to since I already started making it with Burdastyle Tara pattern
(I just LOVE how quick and easy Tara is!),
but it was a great reference.
thank you Chie :)

I am happy with how it came out.
but I'm not sure if I will keep it for myself
or list on my Etsy shop and keep looking for a perfect fabric for it...

Etsy - print updates #2

okay,
I've uploaded the rest of the prints to my print Etsy shop!
I have a few more random prints laying around,
but it's not worth uploading on Etsy.
so that's all I have currently.

since we moved to Vancouver Island from Oregon,
I have not been able to print
because I need an entire facility
- printing press, inks, drying racks, acid tank, pallets,,, to name a few,
oh and the space!

I was very fortunate to be able to print in one of a few totally non-toxic printmaking labs in the world.
traditional printmaking techniques can be very toxic,
and so many printmakers died from rare types of cancer...
I think now it is moving more towards to the non-toxic techniques, though,
which is a wonderful thing!

Etsy - print updates

ahhhh

I finally updated & re-listed some of my prints on my print Etsy shop!
I am in a process of moving my prints from my Jewelry & Clothes Etsy shop to the Print Etsy shop!

I thought I could go to the expired listings, then copy and paste to a new listing.
but, I couldn't open the pages for the expired listings... :(
so, I got lazy, as usual, and procrastinated until now.
it's been,,,, hmmmmmm,,,,, a few months now?!

I know, I know, I am bad...

but I had to take all the measurements once again
(this time I learned to write those down in my book),
and new photos are needed for some prints
because they didn't transfer well to a memory stick from my old computer...

a lot of work!

I have not taken any new photos just yet,
but they are coming!
yes yes, very soooooooooonnnnn!!!
I promise :)

so, hopefully I can get the rest rolling in the next few weeks!

sailor's little girl

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I finally received my battery charger from mom today :)
now, I can take pictures of a lot of things....

to start with...

this is a dress I made last week.

the pattern is Tara from Burda Style.
I always wanted to try this pattern.
it was very easy & quick!
I like that :)

I added some lace on the bust.
the back yoke is lowered a little,
and straps are crossed on the back then tied in a bow on the front.

I will list this dress on my Etsy store by tomorrow!

etsy update

With the very little free time I have, I finally made a dreamy spring dress for my Etsy shop.
Why did I have to make another one of the same dress?
(well, with a different colored fabric)
Because I decided to keep the first one!
hehehe ;P
This happens often.
probably more than it should....

but it's so hard!
after spending so much time and energy you put into creating things,
of course you'll get attached!
and its also so nice knowing it is the only one unique thing in the entire world!
nobody else has it!
right?

amigurumi

We are trying to minimize the amount of plastic in our household.
We want to create an Eco-conscious & friendly home and life.
It is very hard to find good quality everything, though, made with wood, quality metal and glass just like the old days. Sadly, everything is made with plastic these days...

We don't want to give our daughter any plastic toys either.
which means, NO BARBIE DOLLS for her!
Instead, give her toys made out of natural materials like wood, fabric and paper.

I am making her a felt baby mobile.
I had to order some materials and can't go further without them...
Can't wait to finish it up, and I will post it here as soon as I finish it!

Also, I found these cute stuffed animals, called 'AMIGURUMI'.
They are knitted and/or crocheted.
So super cute !

Since I don't knit or chroche (I don't have patience for them!),
I am thinking of getting one for our daughter :)
Well, I don't think she is quite ready to start playing with dolls, but soon she will be!

Here are some of my favorites I found on Etsy.

Seahorses by hansigurumi.

Enchanted Wood Fawn by GourmetAmigurumi.

Anton by AYMK.

etsy fromt page

Apparently, the Treasury that my 'Minty Summer' top was listed on made it to the front page of Etsy a few days ago!
I had no idea!
But a craft pal of mine sent me a message congratulating me on Etsy.
She also has her own Etsy shop, Free Flight Clothing.

Her store is full of cute screen printed clothes!

So, be sure to go check out her Etsy store!!
